My First Day

Week One (Thursday 23 August 2012)

Today I started something new and exciting! It's called "6 weeks to OMG" and is a radical lifestyle change programme - although not so radical for me, apart from the cold bath bit! Being an overachiever (including overachieving on how much fat is on my body!) I chose the hardest routine, called QUAKE

This is how my first day went...

6.00 am - Up and into the shower.  One minute at normal temperature washing my hair, then about four minutes gradually decreasing temperature.  Unfortunately I don't have a thermometer, but I'll get one tomorrow so I know whether I'm at the right temperature (aiming for around 20 degrees C). It was a bit uncomfortable, but nowhere near as bad as I'd made it seem like it was going to be! Nasty putting my head under to rinse the conditioner off though - brrr!

6.10 am - Out and dressed in exercise gear.  Spent 48 minutes on the Wii doing Wii Fit yoga, muscle, and aerobic routines.  Had to swear lots at the horrible trainer who tells me my balance needs work.  Drank a cup of coffee while I exercised, which probably goes against some rule but I didn't die so all good.

8.30 am - Had another black coffee while I worked at the computer.

10.00 am - My tummy was rumbling but I wasn't particularly hungry - I have no issue leaving breakfast until late.  Had breakfast of two scrambled eggs (with milk) on one piece of wholegrain toast with margarine.  15gm of carbs for this meal and well over half the plate was protein.

11.00 am - 1.00 pm - Drank one large cup of green tea mixed with water to make up my 750mL container.  Was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to drink. ☺

1.30 pm - Helped out at school with the Perceptual Motor Programme (my usual Thursday afternoon chore).  Chose the most physical activity which involved squatting down and resetting skittles after each child had bowled them down.  Was puffed and sweaty doing it, so assume it had enough oomph to count at my second Period of Movement (POM2) which needed to be 45 minutes.  I overachieved. ☺

3.30 pm - Got home from school and had lunch.  Thought I would have been starving, but apart from being a bit angry (think that was from lower than usual blood sugar which I'm sure will sort itself out over the next few days) I was all good. Had a pear while my toast was cooking, then had one piece of wholegrain toast with a tin of tuna and five mussels.  Loads of protein (well over half again - go me!) and 15 gm of carbs.

6.25 pm - Dinner was about half an hour away, so went for a 15-minute walk up the road and back (POM3).  Was freezing and uninspired when I left, but felt much better when I got back.

7.10 pm - Dinner of chicken nibbles, broccoli and one yam.  Not sure about the carbs portion, as the yam was the only thing on my small plate and although it weighed 45 grams uncooked, I am counting it as 30gm.  Used a smaller plate than usual and again, over half was protein.  Drank another cup of green tea with water between lunch and bed.

10.00 pm - Suddenly remembered I needed to exercise my transversus muscle, so got out of bed and blew up a balloon 10 times.  Supposedly the deep breathing should have helped me sleep well, but as usual had to get up at 3.00 am to pee.  Did manage to get back to sleep without much trouble though, which is unusual for me.

Overall - As strange as it sounds, I felt different right from the shower onwards.  My skin felt lovely after the shower - all tingly and warm - and then throughout the day my body just seemed to feel comfortable.  The usual aches I have in my shoulders and neck weren't there and I felt really straight.  Not sure why, but I like the feeling so I'm going to roll with it.  I even had to tighten my belt one extra notch to keep my jeans up - and even Mike said I looked different! Also, in the evening I am usually knackered and want to sleep but I was extremely perky - way more so than usual.  Have loved day one!
